Frequently asked questions
Is counting case-sensitive?
No. "The" and "the" are counted as the same word, which is what you want for frequency analysis.
How are hyphenated words counted?
A hyphen inside a word keeps it together: "well-known" counts once, not as "well" and "known".
Can I analyse confidential documents?
Yes. The analysis runs entirely in your browser, so the document text is never transmitted.
About this tool
A word-frequency analysis reveals what a text is really about. Writers use it to spot crutch words they overuse; SEO specialists check keyword density before publishing; students and researchers profile vocabulary in source material; teachers build word lists from reading passages. Paste any text and get every distinct word with its count, sorted from most to least frequent. Counting is case-insensitive, keeps in-word apostrophes and hyphens (so "don't" and "well-known" count as single words), and understands accented and non-Latin letters.
